Individual and Group Counseling
Anchor provides a safe space for healing and growth through individual and group therapy. Our approach uses proven clinical approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and trauma-informed care. We tailor each client’s care plan to their unique background, strengths, and goals, ensuring every individual receives the support and respect they need to recover and rebuild.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is one of the most widely researched and effective therapies for both mental health conditions and substance use disorders. It is based on the understanding that thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected—and by changing one, we can influence the others.
Why It Works:
- Helps clients recognize and challenge harmful thinking patterns (“cognitive distortions”)
- Teaches skills to manage stress, anxiety, and cravings
- Strengthens decision-making and impulse control
- Reduces symptoms of depression, PTSD, and anxiety—often co-occurring with addiction
How It Works at Anchor Health:
Our licensed clinicians use CBT to help clients examine the beliefs and experiences that drive their behavior. In both individual and group settings, clients learn how to reframe their thinking, reduce self-destructive actions, and develop practical strategies for staying sober and emotionally regulated.
Motivational Interviewing (MI)
Motivational Interviewing is a client-centered approach that helps individuals resolve ambivalence about recovery. Rather than directing or confronting, MI meets the client where they are and guides them to discover their own reasons for change.
Why It Works
- Empowers clients to take ownership of their recovery
- Enhances engagement in treatment and reduces drop-out rates
- Builds confidence and self-efficacy in achieving recovery goals
- Works well with clients mandated to treatment by courts or probation
How It Works at Anchor Health:
Trained therapists at Anchor use MI techniques to build trust and foster open dialogue. By affirming the client’s strengths and encouraging self-reflection, we help individuals move through resistance and commit to positive action. This approach is especially effective for justice-involved clients who may initially feel disconnected from treatment.
